Aww..pain! Splitting headache. How many times has she woken up feeling like her head is going to explode? As she rolled over to the other side of the bed and tried to get up, her fingers felt a long bottle on top of the untouched blanket. She picks it up and hold on to it, making her way to the kitchen with unstable steps. She threw the beer bottle into the rubbish bin.
As she clumsily pours herself a glass of water to quench her thirst, she heard a voice calling her from behind. “Tsk tsk tsk, I say mei ah, how much ruder can you get lor. Luckily my friend cannot see, if not, I think you would have scared the wits out of him lor.” Fang Tong pointed to his twin sister’s messy bird-nest-hair and crumpled clothes. “What la?” Fang Qi turned back and snapped in an irritated tone, her hands still holding the glass of water that she is trying to down.
Eh…this voice? Wei Lian was surprised to hear a familar voice. “I say my friend is here. Don’t be rude, call people.” Fang Tong shook his head in disbelief that her sister has actually gotten herself into such a messy state. “Where la?” Fang Qi did not see anyone around. “Ok, here. Wei Lian.” He stepped aside and revealed the guy who has been standing behind them for quite a while. Wei Lian listened to their conversation and replied, “Oh, ya? Hello hello?”
“Hello?” Fang Qi took a step closer and peered at the guy in front of him intently. Huh?! Him again? This time she does not need to ask him if he was the blind guy who crossed her path several times. She scrutinized him from head to toe and then again from toe to head, her hands grabbing the glass of water tightly, and then finally down the water with a big gulp. “You again ah?”
“Ah.” Wei Lian managed a short and curt reply, his gaze once again not meeting hers. “Oh.” Fang Qi dumped the empty glass into her brother’s hands and walked out of the kitchen. “Oei, so rude!” Fang Tong grumbled after her.
“Eh, you know her meh?” He turned and asked Wei Lian, still in disbelief that his sister just walked away like that. “Dunoe la. I where dare to la?” Wei Lian purposely said loudly. A resounding ‘OEI!” was the reply to his answer.
Wei Lian lugged his guitar case with him and stood in front of the back door of the beach house. There he is again. One more week and Cherie will be back. She still hasn’t called them. He inserted the keys into the keyhole and turned the knob. An empty feeling greeted him. No warmth, no laughter, nothing. Only loneliness and emptiness. “Hello?” He said loudly. A soft echo replied him with a “Hello”. He smirked sadly to himself.
Everyone he knows has been busy. Jason has been working through the holidays to clinch a deal while he himself has become a partner of the café where he used to sing. Granny Gin, the owner of the café, wished for a semi-retired life but there was no one to take over her business. As she has always doted on Wei Lian, she wanted him to have a secured future. Therefore, she made him inherit half of her café business. After busying himself with work for the past week, he finally decided to take a break this week. Until Cherie comes back.
Together with a small backpack of fresh clothes for changing, he lugged all his song writing equipment to the beach house. The beach house holds a lot of happy and sad memories for him. He had forked out money to buy the lovely beach house from the previous owner. Understanding that Wei Lian is buying the little beach house because he knew Cherie would come back here one day, the owner had sold to him at a very cheap price. Now, he hopes to find some inspiration for a new song here.
