Fang Qi’s palms held onto the white pillar weakly. Her face was a sheet of white. Tears welled up in her already swollen eyes. Her stomach did a flip. Pain was all she felt. Tremendous pain. She struggled to make her way to the front entrance of the hospital. She had gotten so angry with Jake that the anger had triggered her gastric pain. Jason held onto the girl who collapsed into his arms. “Gastric pain…….” was all the girl could manage. He was just walking into the front reception of the hospital when the girl staggered towards him.

“Doctor, is she okay or not?” Jason looked at the pale-faced girl lying on the bed. Big time gambler. That was her name to him.

“Are you her family or friend? Do you know her name?” the doctor asked.

“I don’t know her lay. I only met her on the streets once. Don’t know her name. Then just now she just fell onto me at the front entrance.” Jason couldn’t think of anything else to say.

“Can you please think of some way to contact someone who knows her?” the doctor threw the question back at Jason.

Eventually, Jason had no choice but to scroll through her handphone for a name to call. Eh, what is this? Why are all the numbers overseas numbers or numbers that no one picked up? Suddenly he saw a familiar number. Wei Lian’s number! What is his number doing in her handphone? He hesitated for a while before pressing the call button.

“Ya what?” Wei Lian’s tone hinged on frustration when he heard Fang Qi’s name on his handphone. “Jason here. She is in St. Mary’s Hospital, Ward 5, Bed 4, Level 5. Can you come now or not?” Wei Lian had accompanied Cherie to the same hospital for her routine heart checkup. They were just about to leave the hospital when Jason called him from Fang Qi’s handphone.

Wei Lian did not say anything but instead turned and walked back in the direction of the hospital building, pulling Cherie along. His face was dark with gloom. After Fang Qi had left the beach house, Wei Lian had felt a little regretful at the way he shouted at her. In her absence, he began to feel as if there is suddenly someone missing from his life. She had somehow become a part of his life.

For the past week, Wei Lian had been busy but reluctantly helping Cherie test Jason for his feelings for her. He realised that the more he helped Cherie, the deeper he fell in love with her. But at the end of each day, when he is alone back at the beach house, he realizes that he misses Fang Qi… he quickly brushes the nagging feeling off as a form of change in perception towards her. Despite her loud and crazy ways, she is undeniably good company.

He is unable to comprehend the mixed feelings growing inside him. But now, he is more worried about Fang Qi. Afterall, they have been facing each other for more than a week and he somehow felt that he cannot ignore her. Not now. His heart told him.

“What happened to her?” Wei Lian asked as he neared Jason, with Cherie holding on to his arm. His tone was indifferent. That’s him. That’s the way he showed concern. “Gastric. She collapsed at the front entrance. Found your number in her handphone when I scrolled through to get someone to come.” Jason’s curt reply came. Having said so, he led him to the bedside.

Wei Lian hesitated before reaching his hands out to touch the edge of the bed and felt for her arm. “Err….” Fang Qi flinched weakly. In her semi-conscious state, she saw Wei Lian. She thought she is dreaming. Huh? Wei Lian is here? Her fingers held onto his hand weakly. Feeling her clutch, he asked awkwardly, “Eh. Okay or not? How come like that?”

“Jake…..” she began to explain how Jake had made her so angry that she ended up having gastric pains. Wei Lian upon hearing Jake’s name, raised his eyebrows and awkwardly loosened his grip on her fingers. Feeling Wei Lian’s loosened grip, she stopped. She let go of his hand and turned away weakly. She thought she caught Jason and Cherie looking at her with doubt written all over their faces. Both have never heard of Wei Lian having any contact with Fang Qi. Suddenly, Cherie recognized Fang Qi. “Hi…remember me? We took the same classes in school.” she waved her hand at the pale-faced Fang Qi and said softly.

“Jake and Fang Tong are coming over soon.” Wei Lian interrupted suddenly. But the response he got was an immediate kick from Fang Qi. It was a weak kick but her foot jabbed him on his thigh.

“Eh, you can don’t anyhow kick or not? Sick still want to kick people.” Wei Lian chided in displeasure.

“Cannot! Call him for what? Ask him to go away.” Fang Qi raised her voice.

“You are really too much leh. I didn’t call Ah Ma very good already lor!” Wei Lian retorted angrily, warning her that if she dared to raise her voice again, he is not going to help her carry on the act anymore in front of Ah Ma, who had extended her stay till next month. Cherie and Jason looked on in astonishment. Wei Lian has never shouted at girls before, not even Jace.

“You….... for all I care la! The most I say I broke up with you and got back with Jake lor.” Fang Qi was pissed off. She is lying on the hospital bed and this is how he is treating her.

Wei Lian could not stand it anymore and walked out of the ward without saying another word. Fang Qi buries her face into the thick hospital pillows, leaving Jason and Cherie in deep thoughts. Wei Lian and Fang Qi……they……….
